Schon mehrmals war ich zum Urlauben im Zittauer Gebirge. Allerdings hatte ich es bei meinen Aufenthalten nie auf den Oybin geschafft. Also musste diesmal ein Quartier in Oybin her. Es fand sich ein kleenes schnuckliges Backsteinhäuschen, von dem aus ich morgens beim Aufwachen mein wichtigstes Ziel, den Berg Oybin, im Blick hatte. Und so machte ich mich gleich am ersten Tag auf die Socken, es ging durch die Ritterschlucht ruff uff den Berg.
've been to the Zittau Mountains several times for holidays. However, I'd never managed to climb Oybin during my previous visits. So this time I had to find accommodation in Oybin. I found a small, charming brick house from which I could see my main goal, Mount Oybin, every morning when I woke up. And so, on the very first day, I set off, hiking through the Ritterschlucht gorge and up the mountain.
Wettertechnisch war Regen angesagt, was vermutlich viele abgeschreckt hat. Und so hatte ich den Berg samt Burg- und Klosterruine fast für mich alleene.
Rain was forecast, which probably deterred many people. And so I had the mountain, including the castle and monastery ruins, almost entirely to myself.
Wie vom Wetterfrosch voraus gesagt, lies der Regen nich lange uff sich warten. Und während ich noch dabei war, mich wetterfest einzupacken, waberte rings um den Berg der Dunst und die Wolken hingen ganz tief. Was für ein toller Anblick!
As predicted by the weatherman, the rain didn't keep us waiting long. And while I was still bundling up for the weather, mist swirled around the mountain and the clouds hung low. What a magnificent sight!
Eng, enger, am Engsten wurde es dann auf der Runde um den Berg. Man mag sich jar nich vorstellen, das dieser Weg vor einigen Jahrhunderten von Menschenhand in den Berg getrieben wurde. Nix für Leute mit Platzangst, denn selbst der Rucki passte nich durch und musste vom Rücken runter. Und die juten Klamotten aus dem Kleiderschrank sollte man sich vielleicht ooch klemmen.
Ich fand´s cool, immer wieder taten sich tolle Ausblicke in die Umgebung auf.
Narrower, narrower, narrowest of all narrows it became on the loop around the mountain. It's hard to imagine that this path was carved into the mountain by human hands centuries ago. Definitely not for people with claustrophobia, because even my backpack wouldn't fit and had to be taken off. And you might want to leave your good clothes at home. I thought it was cool; there were always fantastic views of the surrounding area.
Ein anderes Ziel während meines Aufenthaltes in Oybin war der Töpfer, denn Steinzoo und Felsentor auf dessen Gipfel klang spannend und wollte ich mir unbedingt angucken. Hoch zu ging´s über die Straße, wenig spektakulär, aber wie sich später herausstellte, nich die schlechteste Entscheidung an diesem Tag.
Oben angekommen hat man einen fantastischen Ausblick bis zum Riesengebirge oder zur Landeskrone, dem Hausberg von Görlitz.
Another destination during my stay in Oybin was the Töpfer mountain, as the stone zoo and rock arch at its summit sounded intriguing and I was eager to see them. The ascent was via the road, not particularly spectacular, but as it turned out, not the worst decision I'd made that day. Once at the top, you're rewarded with a fantastic view stretching as far as the Giant Mountains and the Landeskrone, Görlitz's local mountain.
Hat man die Aussicht bewundert, kann man das Felsentor erklimmen oder sich auf die Suche nach den Tieren vom Steinzoo machen. Dabei handelt es sind um Felsen, die mit mal mehr oder weniger Fantasie Tieren ähnlich sehen.
Once you've admired the view, you can climb the rock arch or search for the animals of the "stone zoo." These are rocks that, with a bit of imagination, resemble animals to varying degrees.
Für den Rückweg hatte ich mir in den Kopf gesetzt, das ich unbedingt noch einen Abstecher zu den Gratzer Höhlen machen wollte. Der Weg dahin war markiert, Gott sei Dank, sonst würde ich jetzt noch durch die Gegend irren. Die Markierung war das einzig positive an dem Weg. Denn dieser war oft als solcher nicht erkennbar, es ging über Stock und Stein oder knapp an der Felskante vorbei. Schon nach kurzer Zeit hatte ich mir die Kamera um den Hals gehängt (was ich sonst eigentlich überhaupt nicht leiden kann), aber ich brauchte einfach beide Hände, um mich an Bäumen festzuhalten oder über Felsbrocken zu klettern. Hätte ich das geahnt, hätte ich es gelassen. Denn grad von einem Bandscheibenvorfall genesen und dadurch noch nicht ganz so trittsicher war der Weg für mich ne echte Herausforderung.
For the return journey, I had decided I absolutely had to make a detour to the Gratzer Caves. The path there was marked, thank goodness, otherwise I'd still be wandering around aimlessly. The markings were the only positive thing about the trail. It was often unrecognizable as such, leading over rocks and roots or skirting the edge of cliffs. After only a short time, I had my camera hung around my neck (something I normally absolutely hate), but I simply needed both hands to hold onto trees or climb over boulders. Had I known this, I would have left well enough alone. Having just recovered from a slipped disc and therefore not yet entirely sure-footed, the path was a real challenge for me.
Der Anblick der Gratzer Höhlen entschädigt jedoch für die Strapazen. Hoch und gewaltig tun sich diese vor einem auf und passen kaum aufs Bild. Man steht auf feinsten Sand und kommt sich ganz klein und unbedeutend vor.
The sight of the Gratzer Caves, however, more than compensates for the effort. Towering and imposing, they open up before you, barely fitting into a single frame. You stand on the finest sand and feel utterly small and insignificant.
Ein paar neckische Hummeln sind mir während meines Aufenthaltes hier vor die Linse geflogen. Eine fand ich ja witzig, denn offensichtlich akrobatisch veranlagt hing sie mit dem Hintern uff ner Blüte, um sich janz jemütlich am Kopf zu putzen.
A few cheeky bumblebees flew in front of my lens during my stay here. I found one particularly funny, as it was obviously acrobatic, hanging with its bottom on a flower to comfortably clean its head.
Ein janz drolliges und gnubbeliges Exemplar hat mir auf dem Hochwaldturm in fast 800m Höhe Gesellschaft geleistet.
A very funny and knobbly specimen kept me company on the Hochwald Tower at almost 800m altitude.
